4/5/2001 Many people have been taken in
by the promises of different companies to offer free lifetime email.
What most people didn't realise was that this promises were based
on a very flimsey basis as a marketing ploy to get market share.
In 2000, customers of Nationwide Building Society were shocked to
find that their favourite building society was no longer going to
offer free email at their website. Another ISP that has shocked
a few people, not least by the suddenness of the termination of
their service, is that free lifetime email at Atom-bomb has been
terminated by 2 days notice! I received the following email on 4th
May 2001.....
"Due to what Chek.com describes as a "breach
of contract" between atom-bomb.com and chek.com, Chek.com is
no longer willing to provide free lifetime web based email to atom-bomb.com
members. As a result, effective within the next two days, you will
no longer have access to your email at atom-bomb.com. As a result,
you need to clear out any remaining emails in your account and move
them to a new web based or pop account immediately.
We at ATOM-BOMB.COM apologize for any inconvenience this has caused.
If you have any questions or comments regarding this you may contact
support@atom-bomb.com for ATOM-BOMB.COM related comments or support@chekinc.com
for Chek related comments or questions.
Again I apologize for any inconvenience this has caused you.
Sincerely,
Brent LeVasseur, President & CEO, ATOM-BOMB.COM, INC."
Our comment....
"We are pleased that we did not have any service with this
company, but the our view is as it always been. The safest way to
protect your email is to have your own domain name and host it with
someone you know. You can learn more about our domain services under
the web services option".
